1.Cooking with FoodSteps

A. How do I use the motion control feature?
First you need to turn it on by clicking on the "motion control" icon in the recipes navigation bar. If the icon is highlighted it means it is turned on. In order to move to the next step in a recipe all you need to do is move your hand from right to left in front of the iPads front facing camera. Your hand should be approximately 11 Inches (30 cm) from the camera. In order to go back one step just repeat the motion only from left to right. See how easy it is?

B. What is a "Chef Comment"?
In order to make things even easier and clearer for you we created these short voice notes the chef who uploaded the recipe can add to each step. You can turn this feature on by clicking on the "Chef Comments" button in the recipes' navigation bar. When it is highlighted it is turned on. Now in each step there is a voice comment it will automatically start playing it once you get to that step. You can always replay a comment by using the player on the bottom left corner of the screen.

C. How do I use the units and quantities converter?
That's actually pretty simple- just go to the ingredients step of the recipe and choose US or Metric units on the top. You can also select the number of portions you wish to cook from the dropdown list. We recommend sticking to the original quantity given by the chef, but you can always try a different number.

2.Registration and account

A. Why should I create a profile on FoodSteps?
Well, first of all creating a profile is completely free. It allows you to follow people whose recipes you like, and stay up to date with what they are sharing on FoodSteps. It also allows you to create your own library of "Liked" recipes, so you can always go back to them easily and quickly when you want to. Then there is also the opportunity to upload and share your own recipes- you can even sell some of them and start making money right from the start.

B. Must I have a facebook account to join FoodSteps?
Yes. In order to keep things as simple as possible this is currently the only way to log in . Don't have a facebook account and really want to join FoodSteps? Contact us and we'll see what we could do.

C. Can I change my profile picture?
Of course. The default picture for your profile is your facebook profile picture. To change it, simply go to Profile under Account.

3.Content contribution and earnings

A. Uploading a recipe:
i. How do I upload a recipe?
In order to upload a recipe you must be logged into FoodSteps. Click on the "Add Recipe" button and you're on your way. Recipe creation is as simple as using FoodSteps- You create the recipe one step at a time, in the same order of steps you would use the recipe. For each step you need a picture, and you can add some text or record a "Chef comment". In the first step you will show the "cover picture"- the complete dish and give an overview of what it is, level of difficulty etc… Don't forget you can record a comment if you want. The second step is always the list of ingredients. Here you will need to select how many servings the recipe makes, and add the ingredients and quantities. From here the sequence of the recipe begins with "Step 1". The number of steps you can have in a recipe is limited to 15, but other than that you can just get going. Once again, don't forget you can record a "Chef Comment" to each step, or some of the steps- it's up to you.
ii.Images : Images should be larger than 688 x 479 . Maximum file size is limited to 11MB .
iii.How do I control which recipes are online and which aren't? You can manage that from the "My Recipes" tab under "Account" section of the app. Each recipe is either "Online" or "Offline". You can change the status by clicking on it.

B. Managing my recipes
i. Can I delete a recipe after I published it?
Yes you can. Go to "My Recipes" tab under the "Account" section of the app, and there you have under each recipe a "Delete" button. Remember that once you delete a recipe, if you want to use it again you have to upload it from scratch.
ii. Can I change a recipe after I uploaded or published it?
Yes you can. Just click the "Edit" button, under the recipe in the "My Recipes" tab in the "Account" area.
iii. Will my recipe be sold or given for free? That's up to you. You can choose which recipes are free and which are Premium from the "My Recipes" tab in the account section. You can change it back whenever you want.
iv. Can I control the pricing of my recipes?
Not for now. For the time being FoodSteps sells only one package of recipes and all recipes in the app are priced the same.

C. How are my earnings calculated?
FoodSteps Sells packages of 20 recipes for $ 4.99. Apple charges 30% of that for the transaction. Therefore FoodSteps receives approx. $ 3.5 from apple. This is shared equally with the creators of the recipes which were bought. The bottom line is you will receive just a little over 8.5 cents for each purchase of one of your premium recipes. ($ 0.087).

D. How do I get my earnings?
Once you have accumulated more than $ 50 in your earning account you will need to contact us via the "Request Payment" form, accessible from the "Balance" tab in the "Account" section. The money will be sent to your PayPal account.

E. Can I use my earnings to buy some premium recipes?
Not for now. We hope to enable this in the near future.

5.Sharing

A. What is in my NewsFeed?
Your news feed has 2 sections to it:
1.Following- in this section you will see the actions of the people you chose to follow on FoodSteps. It is a great way to create your own filtered recipe stream, built on users you appreciate on the app.
2.My News- in this section you will see what happened to your recipes- how other users of the app interacted with it: did they "Like" it? "Share" it?

B. I saw something I like, or I want to promote a recipe of mine outside the app. How do I do that?
FoodSteps was built to allow you to easily share its content on facebook, Twitter or via email. All you need to do is click the "Share" button found on the cover steps of a recipe, or in a chef's profile, choose how you would like to share it, and that's it. People who will click on your post from outside the app will be directed to a page with more info about that recipe or chef and from there they could go on to download the app.
